Best Places To Eat In North Devon*

Hands up if you love food ??‍ I am a massive foodie, probably spending around half of my day thinking and talking about food! I will seek out anywhere on my travels with good food. Unfortunately, I can’t travel 24/7, but still enjoy feasting on some incredible food back home. I’m born and bred in North Devon, and currently reside here, and as I am a known food lover, many people ask me for my recommendations when they’re looking for a meal out. So, I thought I’d put this blog together to detail some of my favourite places to eat in North Devon.

Squires, Braunton

How could I mention my favourite places without talking about THE best fish and chips in Devon?! Squires is an award-winning restaurant in Braunton, you can really tell how passionate they are about their food. You can sit in their restaurant, although it does get busy during the summer months. Alternatively, you can get take out! One of the best things about Squires is that it is only a stone’s throw away from Saunton Sands and Croyde, so you could always take your food down to the beach to watch the sunset.

The Chichester Arms, Bishops Tawton

Based just outside of Barnstaple, The Chichester Arms is a 15thcentury thatched pub, which is at the heart of Bishops Tawton. They focus on proper British food, rather than anything too fancy, but what they do, they do very well indeed! My go-to meal when I head here is their beef & horseradish pancakes; I love a creamy dish and this is full of so much flavour and is served in a tortilla wrap! Their desserts are pretty delightful too ?

Instow Arms, Instow

The beachside restaurant, Instow Arms has an incredible menu as well as boasting breath-taking views. Overlooking the beautiful beach of Instow, the atmosphere is warm and cosy, and I’ve enjoyed many meals here. Like most places, as well as their normal menu, there are plenty of specials. As mentioned, I’ve enjoyed many meals here and my recommendations are; creamy mushrooms for starters, creamy seafood spaghetti for mains and finished with the Belgian waffles for dessert!

The Thatch, Croyde

Another beachside location, The Thatch is close to Croyde beach. They’re famous for their nachos, which is one of the reasons it’s featured on my best places to eat list. I love nachos like many people, and The Thatch brings in many tourists to try their speciality. With the option of cheese, BBQ chicken, beef chili and veggie, there’s a nacho for all! With an extensive menu, they also have a range of burgers, salads and classic pub grub!

The Pier House, Westward Ho!

Westward Ho! is one of my favourite places in North Devon, there are some incredible places to eat, just like The Pier House. Another place which boasts beautiful views as well as an extensive menu. If the weather is on your side, you can sit up on their balcony and peacefully watch the waves crash against the rocks. My recommendation for food would either be the wild mushroom & pancetta linguini carbonara (I love a carbonara!), or the open Philly cheesesteak!

Pig On The Hill, Westward Ho!

Free parking, great facilities, and a large outdoor area, Pig On The Hill based in Westward Ho! is perfect for all the family. It’s a good spot for lunch as well as for evening meals and Sunday roasts. They’re known for their roasts and you will not be left disappointed, the portion size was perfect. They’ve also got a sister restaurant, Pig On The Beach which I’m very much looking forward to visiting soon!

There is an abundance of places to eat in North Devon, but these are my favourite places to eat when I’m dining out! Nowadays it’s hard to find the best authentic and local places to eat, and that’s where Yellow Trumpet comes in. Yellow Trumpet is a bit like the Yellow Pages, but all online. You’ll be able to find the best restaurants as well as other local North Devon businesses, all in one place. It’s the perfect site for not only finding local businesses, but it’s also great for businesses too, as you’ll be able to reap the benefits of connecting with the local and engaged community in North Devon!

If you’re a North Devon local or enjoy holidaying in one of the most beautiful places in the UK, where are your favourite places to eat? Let me know in the comments ??
